## Frequently asked questions

### How many points do I need for Australia PR?

The minimum to lodge an Expression of Interest for subclass 189, 190 or 491 is 65 points. In practice invitations often go to higher scores depending on occupation and state, so most applicants aim for 80+ points. Proposed changes to the points test were under review in 2026, so always check Home Affairs for current settings.

### Which is the best visa for Australia PR from India?

Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent) gives PR with no sponsor; subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated) adds 5 points with state nomination; subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional) adds 15 points and leads to PR through subclass 191 after three years.

### How long does Australia PR take from India?

Skills assessment and English testing usually take 2–4 months. Waiting for an invitation depends on your points and occupation, and visa processing after lodgement varies by subclass.

### Is PTE or IELTS better for Australia PR?

Both are accepted. Superior English (IELTS 8 in each band, or the PTE Academic component scores set by Home Affairs from 7 August 2025) gives the maximum 20 points. Many applicants find PTE faster to reach the band they need.
