# Canada PR Visa Cost from India in 2026: Every Fee Explained

A line-by-line guide to what Canada PR costs from India in 2026, from IRCC's CAD 1,590 adult fee and biometrics to proof of funds and the third-party costs people forget.

By Phoenix GRS Immigration Team · Last updated 2026-11-06

The government fees for a Canada PR visa through Express Entry or a Provincial Nominee Program are CAD 1,590 for each adult (CAD 990 processing plus the CAD 600 right of permanent residence fee) and CAD 270 for each dependent child, plus biometrics at CAD 85 per person or CAD 170 per family. On top of that you pay for a language test, an educational credential assessment, medical exams and police certificates, and most applicants must show settlement funds that are not a fee but must sit in the bank.

## Key takeaways

- IRCC charges CAD 1,590 per adult and CAD 270 per dependent child for economic PR applications.
- Biometrics cost CAD 85 per person, capped at CAD 170 for a family applying together.
- The CAD 600 right of permanent residence fee (RPRF) is refundable if you withdraw or are refused. Processing fees generally are not.
- Proof of funds is money you must hold, not money you pay. A single applicant needs CAD 15,263 at the time of writing.
- Third-party costs (tests, assessments, medicals, police certificates, translations) vary by provider and change often, so budget for them separately.

## What government fees does IRCC charge for Canada PR?

For economic programmes, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades and Provincial Nominee Programs, each adult pays CAD 1,590 and each dependent child pays CAD 270. These amounts come from IRCC's official fee list at the time of writing.

### What the CAD 1,590 covers

- **Processing fee – CAD 990:** pays IRCC to assess your application.
- **Right of permanent residence fee (RPRF) – CAD 600:** paid by the principal applicant and an accompanying spouse or partner. Dependent children do not pay it.

You can pay the RPRF later, when IRCC approves your file, but you must pay it before you become a permanent resident. IRCC suggests paying it upfront to avoid delays.

### Biometrics

Indian applicants give fingerprints and a photo at a visa application centre. The fee is CAD 85 per person, with a maximum of CAD 170 for a family of two or more applying at the same time. Pay it with your application, then book your appointment once IRCC sends the biometrics instruction letter.

## How much does Canada PR cost for a family of four?

For a couple with two dependent children applying together, IRCC government fees come to CAD 3,890 including biometrics. The table below shows how that adds up.

- **Processing fee** — Who pays: Principal applicant; Amount (CAD): 990; Family of 4 (CAD): 990
- **Right of permanent residence fee** — Who pays: Principal applicant; Amount (CAD): 600; Family of 4 (CAD): 600
- **Processing fee** — Who pays: Spouse or partner; Amount (CAD): 990; Family of 4 (CAD): 990
- **Right of permanent residence fee** — Who pays: Spouse or partner; Amount (CAD): 600; Family of 4 (CAD): 600
- **Dependent child fee** — Who pays: Each child; Amount (CAD): 270; Family of 4 (CAD): 540
- **Biometrics** — Who pays: Per person, family max 170; Amount (CAD): 85; Family of 4 (CAD): 170
- **Total government fees** — Family of 4 (CAD): **3,890**

Fees are paid online in Canadian dollars, so the rupee amount on your card statement depends on the exchange rate and your bank's foreign transaction charges. IRCC revises fees from time to time, so confirm the current amounts on the official fee list just before you pay.

## What other costs do Indian applicants pay before applying?

Before you can even enter the Express Entry pool, you need a language test result and, for foreign degrees, an educational credential assessment (ECA). After an invitation, you need medicals and police certificates. None of these are paid to IRCC.

### Before you create a profile

- **Language test:** IELTS General Training, CELPIP, PTE Core, or the TEF/TCF for French. Fees are set by the test provider and change periodically, so check the provider's Indian booking page. Many applicants take the test more than once to raise their score.
- **Educational credential assessment:** paid to a designated organisation such as WES. Add university charges for sealed transcripts and courier costs, which vary widely by institution.

### After you receive an invitation

- **Immigration medical exam:** done with an IRCC panel physician. The panel clinic sets its own fee, and you pay for each family member.
- **Police certificates:** from India through Passport Seva (Police Clearance Certificate), and from every other country where you lived for six months or more since age 18.
- **Translations:** any document not in English or French needs a certified translation.
- **Passport and photos:** renewals for family members whose passports are close to expiry.

### After approval

Budget for flights, the first few weeks of accommodation and initial living costs in Canada. These usually exceed all the fees above combined.

## How much proof of funds do you need for Canada PR?

Most Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades applicants must show settlement funds based on family size. At the time of writing, IRCC's table asks for CAD 15,263 for one person and CAD 28,362 for a family of four.

### Key rules

- The money must be available to you, in your own name or jointly with your spouse, and you must be able to access it when you land.
- You cannot borrow it from another person, and you cannot count equity in property.
- Bank letters must be on letterhead and show account numbers, opening dates, current balances and the average balance for the last six months.
- IRCC updates the amounts each year. If your profile is in the pool when they change, update your funds to stay eligible.

### Who does not need proof of funds?

You are exempt if you apply under the Canadian Experience Class, or if you are authorised to work in Canada and hold a valid job offer.

## Which Canada PR fees are refundable?

Only the right of permanent residence fee can be refunded after IRCC starts processing, if you withdraw or your application is refused. Processing fees and biometrics fees are generally not refunded once processing has begun.

That is why preparation matters. An incomplete application, a missing police certificate or work reference letters that do not match your claimed NOC can lead to refusal. You lose the processing fee and your Express Entry place, and must wait for a fresh invitation.

## How do you choose the best consultancy for Canada PR in India?

Look for a licensed RCIC on the file, a written service agreement that separates professional fees from government fees, and clear advice before you pay anything. Professional fees are not set by IRCC and vary from firm to firm.

### What a good fee agreement shows

- The name and licence number of the RCIC responsible for your file
- Exactly which services are included, and what costs extra
- Professional fees listed separately from IRCC fees, which you should pay directly to IRCC
- Payment milestones and the refund policy in writing

### Red flags to watch for

- A quote that bundles government and professional fees into one figure
- Advice to show borrowed money as your own settlement funds
- Promises of a guaranteed visa or a specific draw
- Pressure to pay the full professional fee before any eligibility check

## When should you speak to a licensed consultant?

Speak to one before you pay for tests and assessments if you are unsure whether you are eligible, or if your work history spans several employers, gaps or NOC codes. A short review can save you paying for an ECA or a test you do not need.

For Canadian immigration, only RCICs licensed by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC), Canadian lawyers and Québec notaries may charge for advice. Check the name on the CICC public register before signing. Phoenix GRS is a Bangalore-based firm, in practice since 2007, whose Canadian files are supervised by a CICC-licensed RCIC. ## Frequently asked questions

### What is the total IRCC fee for one adult applying for Canada PR?

At the time of writing, one adult pays CAD 1,590 for an economic PR application, made up of the CAD 990 processing fee and the CAD 600 right of permanent residence fee. Biometrics cost an extra CAD 85. Always confirm on IRCC's fee list before paying.

### Do dependent children pay the right of permanent residence fee?

No. Dependent children pay only the CAD 270 dependent child fee. The RPRF applies to the principal applicant and an accompanying spouse or partner.

### Is proof of funds a fee I pay to the Canadian government?

No. Proof of funds is money you must hold and be able to access when you land in Canada. You keep it, and it helps you settle. Canadian Experience Class applicants and some applicants with valid job offers are exempt.

### Can I get my Canada PR fees back if my application is refused?

You can get the right of permanent residence fee refunded if you withdraw or are refused. Processing fees and biometrics fees are generally not refunded once processing has started.

### Can I pay IRCC fees in Indian rupees?

IRCC fees are charged in Canadian dollars and paid online, usually by card. Your bank converts the amount to rupees and may add foreign transaction charges, so the final rupee cost varies.
