# Study in the Netherlands: Student Visa for Indians

**Quick answer:** Indian students admitted to a Dutch university apply for an entry visa (MVV) and residence permit together, through the university acting as sponsor with the IND. You must show sufficient funds for living costs. After graduation, the 'orientation year' permit lets you stay up to a year to find work.

The Netherlands is a leading destination for international students, renowned for its high-quality universities, innovative research environment, and large number of English-taught programmes. Institutions such as Delft University of Technology, University of Amsterdam, and Wageningen University consistently rank among the best in the world.

Non-EU students planning to study in the Netherlands for more than 90 days require a Dutch student visa and a residence permit. In most cases, the Dutch university the student is admitted to will act as a sponsor and apply for the residence permit (MVV and residence permit) on the student's behalf through the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).

The Netherlands offers a wide range of bachelor's and master's programmes taught entirely in English, making it particularly attractive for students from non-Dutch-speaking countries. Tuition fees are generally lower than those in the UK or US, and the cost of living, while higher than some European countries, is offset by the excellent quality of life and career opportunities.

International students in the Netherlands are permitted to work up to 16 hours per week during the academic year and full-time during the summer months. After completing a degree, graduates can apply for the Orientation Year Visa (Zoekjaar), allowing them to stay in the Netherlands for one year to find employment or start a business related to their studies.
