Australia Bridging Visa: Different Visa categories

The  Australia Bridge Visa is a document that allows you to stay legally in Australia while applying for another class of visa.

Sometimes these bridging visas can be used to stay legally while you have a pending case before at the Administrative Court.

The bridging visa will remain valid unless you travel outside of Australia within this period. The only time you can leave within this period is if you have a  B-Class bridging visa.

Types of the bridging Visa Australia

1. A-Class Bridging Visa (BVA)

You can obtain this type of visa  if you already hold an Australian visa but wish to switch to a different temporary visa subclass. The visa gives you legal status in Australia while your application is pending.

The A-class bridging visa does not allow travel arrangements. If you leave Australia, you can no longer enter on the Bridge A visa.

Once your current temporary visa expires & you do not apply for a BVA,  then you will be considered as an illegal immigrant.

The BVA has no regulations on working in Australia. If you have to  work within this period, then it is advisable to apply to BVB.

However, this can only be done in cases of financial hardship.

You may be allowed to work on an employer-sponsored visa. If you have an existing application for an onshore partner visa,  you may also be granted a work permit.

2. B-Class Bridging Visa Australia (BVB)

The B-class bridging visa serves as an add-on to class A. This means you must apply for a class B in order to travel outside of Australia without cancelling your BVA.

However, the BVB is only valid for 3 months. Therefore, you must return to the country before it expires.

3. C-Class Bridging visa

If you are in Australia illegally then apply for the C bridging visa, but have a temporary visa application.

This mainly occurs when you stay in Australia beyond the expiry date of your visa  without renewing it.

BVC allows you to travel outside of Australia. Therefore, you cannot re-enter Australia with this visa once you have left the country.

Likewise, BVC holders cannot receive BVB.

Usually, you cannot work on the Bridge C visa. However, if your current visa application falls under class 189, 188, 190, 186, you may be eligible to work.

4. D-Class Bridging Visa

A D-class bridge visa is quite similar to a C-class bridging visa. The difference is that if your temporary visa has expired without an extension, you will receive BVD.

However, BVD is only valid for 5 days. It doesn’t allow you to work or travel.

5. E-Class Bridging Visa

The bridging E-Visa allows you to stay legally in Australia once your existing temporary visa expires. The visa loses its validity as soon as you leave the country.

You must re-apply or leave Australia within this period. Sometimes it can be used for work. It totally depends on the visa officer’s decision.
